Using the Creative Fluency

What is my assignment?

For this assignment, I wrote an essay addressing which side of the dilemma I support in the short story Just Lather That’s All.  This was an assignment from my English class in quarter 2.

Identify:

To be successful with my assignment, I had to decide which side of the dilemma I truly support. What would I have done if I was in the protagonist’s shoes?

My first step is to introduce the dilemma and topic.

Then I would elucidate on two supporting points that would make up for the reason I chose my answer.

To conclude my answer, I would summarize my supporting points. My goal was to persuade many that choosing this side of the dilemma would be the more contemplative alternative.

This would create a 4 paragraph essay.

Inspire:

To gather inspiration for my assignment, I could use my previous debate outlines. I would use it as my guidelines on how to structure a debate. To make it realistic, I could act as if my task was to corroborate why I supported one side of the dilemma. The question was: If an enemy was nearby and I had an advantage, would I act as if I didn’t know who he was or would I advance to end him?

Interpolate:

Although I had thought of a debate concept, I was required to format it like an essay. Using my debate outlines, instead of creating points I could write them as one paragraph each. Rebuttal points wouldn’t be necessary as I wasn’t going ahead to debate with anyone.

My first step was to fill out the debate outline, then proceed to create an essay using my points.

Imagine:

Envisioning myself in this dilemma was one of the ways I figured out which side I supported. I’ve figured if I was in the main character’s shoes I wouldn’t end my enemy. Thinking of the enemy’s position as a captain of an army, the army would just eventually find a new captain. From this decision, I hit the road to writing my essay. I introduced my topic and the dilemma in the first paragraph. The second and third paragraphs would elucidate my two supporting points. Finally, the last paragraph would wrap up the topic and reasons why I chose this side of the dilemma.

Inspect:

My first criteria point was to introduce the topic. This was the paragraph that got me thinking thoroughly as I had to make a decision on which side I supported. Then, I included two supporting points. Lastly, the concluding paragraph finalized and summarized my decision.

Reflecting back on my assignment, I could have potentially added another supporting point. Those supporting the other side of the dilemma could have easily made two supporting points. More points would make up for more reasons on which side of the dilemma to support. Two points would be the absolute minimum to persuade anyone.
