Terry Fox Run

The first big school event was the Terry Fox Run which was held in September. For this event, I was a contributor; my role was to help the jazz band bring out their equipment. At the beginning of the event, I was dismissed early from class to go to the stadium to help unload the snacks and drinks. After this, a group of us had to gather the whole school as they were walking in to take a photo. My job for this part was to make sure people did not cross over the cones in order to be included in the photo.

In terms of my main job, there was a lot of going back and forth from the stadium to the school because we had to double-check if the jazz band needed anything else. They instructed us that they didn’t need any help. We even insisted on helping, but they declined. When the band arrived, a group of us helped show them where they should be standing according to their performance order. After this was settled, I was instructed to collect the garbage after people finished with their snacks. From this, I was holding the garbage bag open with a positive attitude, so others felt welcome to throw their garbage away. One way that I ensured this event was a success was that I had to dig through a bag of already collected garbage to separate based on the materials. I separated the refundables from the plastic and paper. In addition, I also went around the stadium seats to collect the left over juice boxes where the event ended earlier than anticipated because most of the cleaning had already been done. Overall, this event was a really great way for Pinetree to show its community spirit by coming together. I really enjoyed this event as it was outdoors and from the uplifting mood of the students.
