Using the Creative Fluency

film editing project

(the quality of this video is really bad because it wouldn’t let me upload it as “media” since it wasn’t the correct file type)

What was my Assignment?

In my last Quarter (Q3) I had ICT 9. For our final assignment, we were asked to create a short film using Adobe Premiere and Youtube (or self-captured) clips/videos.

Identify

My goal for this project was to be able to fool my audience into thinking that the two main videos I used actually looked like it was one storyline.

A few rough steps I followed to create my project:

  1. choosing the style of short film
  2. finding and converting my video clips and audio
  3. editing (this can be broken down into several aspects like adding cuts and transitions, but they’re more or less out of order depending on what I want to remove or add)

In the end, I believe I did a good job portraying what I aimed for.

Inspire

My ICT teacher, Ms. Choi, gave us a lot of example videos.

Starting with those and kind of branching off really helped to get the inspiration and clips I needed for this project.

Interpolate

I realized with this project that I really had to pay attention to the little details. Re-watching my clips multiple times helped tremendously in the final product. With the materials given to me, I felt that I knew enough about my project to be able to branch off and have fun while doing so, though it did take a lot of time in class and at home, too.

Imagine

When I started this project, I had a completely different idea. My plan was to make my film cinematic, powerful and suspenseful. I had this whole thing planned out, and nearly completed when I had decided that I didn’t like it anymore.  I did not think that it would show what I had learned throughout the course well enough so I started fresh with a new file, new clips and new sounds.

Once I had started this, I was still a little unhappy with it, but I was proud of myself overall and it was a great closure to the ICT 9 course.

Inspect

Before showing my final project to my ICT teacher, I decided to look over the rubric once again to make sure that I had met all expectations. I had watched my film over and over again, seeing if I needed anything else but ultimately I decided that I was finally done.

If I were to do this again, I feel as though I should have made my decision quicker. Going through with editing the film style I was not as confident in resulted in my time being wasted. I would have liked to do a self-shot film too, if I had the time, but the pre-made clips were a lot easier to grab and edit.
