˗ˏˋUsing the Creative Fluency ˎˊ˗

The assignment in which I had to use the creative fluency was during my short story assignment for humanities 9. For this assignment, we were required to write a six-page short story on any topic of our choice — which will later be presented in the form of a podcast.

                                 Identify

In order to be successful in this assignment, I would first have to come up with an interesting plot and design characters that seem realistic. I would also have to make sure that I meet the length requirement for this assignment. Finally, I would have to ensure that I give good feedback to my peers and take the time to apply the corrections my peers give me.

Inspire

Before we began writing our short stories, our teacher showed us several examples of famous short stories written by others. Some examples of the short stories she showed us included Flowers for Algernon, The Necklace, Barney, and The Veldt. The inspiration for my story however, actually came from a novel called After the Cure. In short, the creator of a virus which wiped out half of the world is being put on trial, eight years after the first dose of the cure was administered. The idea of someone being put on trial after committing a crime on this large of a scale interested me, and I decided that I wanted to incorporate a similar idea.

Interpolate

After reading all of these short stories, I began looking for characteristics in which all these short stories shared.  In all the short stories I read, I found that the main characters of the stories were all  thoroughly developed, even if the length of the story was very short. All the short stories also had an effective inciting incident, climax, and resolution. Though the plots of some stories were deeper than others, they all made me question things and think – regardless of the genre or theme of the story.

Imagine

At first, I had a very hard time coming up with a plot that felt meaningful, but at the same time would be something that I enjoy writing. Since all the short stories I read had some sort of deeper meaning and made the reader question things – I also wanted to incorporate something similar to my story. Though I struggled at first to come up with a plot that I liked, the ideas starting rushing in after I had a discussion and brainstormed with a friend. I began writing my first draft for the story after this.

Inspect

After writing my draft, I reviewed and edited my story several times to meet the requirements. Originally, my story was much longer than the maximum amount of pages allowed for this assignment, so I had to take several unnecessary parts of my story out. As the guidelines for this assignment were very loose, I had a lot of freedom in terms of creativity and didn’t have many criteria to meet. I then reviewed again to make sure that the feedback my peers gave me was applied to my story in a way that made sense. After some final corrections and adjustments, I submitted my short story for marking.
