Athens: Upon research on finding out what an ancient Athenian shoe looked like I found that there were many types to choose from. I decided on a design that seemed lightweight and easier to move around in. This design including straps across the entire shoe to ensure the feet stay in place and having ornamental pieces such as wings on the back of the shoe as well as small leaves decorating the ankles and toes. The colors are more subtle having light red and brown on the shoe to remain not too flashy. A more in depth explanation on why I chose these ornamental pieces was that I thought putting laurels is an appropriate addition since it was popular and used by many in Athens for art and architectural decoration and it would make sense that their shoes would also have it. I decided to put a minimal amount of the leaves on the foot as Athens was considered to have people of wisdom so minimalistic features is something they would appreciate. Wings I added since owls were sacred for the Athenians because it represents Athena the god of wisdom.

Spartans: The ancient Spartans seemed to gravitate to more of a taller shoe, reaching past the ankle and moving much higher up the leg. Having this design gives the person who wears it better ankle support and overall, more stability. The design included more flashy colors with more aggressive colors and has special features such as spikes on the top of the shoe and spikes on the back to give for a more intimidating look. Sparta was known for its military and the powerful and fearless warriors that made Sparta feared so it would make sense to have as much support on the shoe and protection to allow to soldiers to be more agile and fight quicker and better.
