Holiday Spirit Week 2023
For this year’s holiday spirit week, I was on the Monday and Wednesday group. As a part of the Santa’s Spies event/day, I made the trivia sheets that were handed out at lunch.
Monday: PJ Day
Tuesday: Sports Jersey Day
Wednesday: Santa’s Spies
Thursday: Christmas Wear Day
Winter Formal
For this year’s winter formal, I helped in two parts:
- Creating decorations after school (volunteer, an hour – 3:10-4,)
- Decorating the school for the winter formal prior to the event (3:10-6, December 14th)Β This was an interesting experience, mainly because I didn’t have a set job – I was just helping out wherever needed, whether that was holding a piece of tulle, creating a cardboard board for the photo room, or sticking stars all over walls. It was an interesting experience – especially because of the nerves that everyone had, and the pressure to make everything look good while also doing it quickly.
Gr. 9 Day
Note: I (unfortunately) don’t have any photo evidence of this event.
During grade 9 day, myself (along with Horace) were assigned to hold the signs and direct students to the side of the library they had to get their snacks from. I did this until no more students were entering, and then I joined Lanna as the background singers for Horace’s wonderful rendition of “California Gurls.”
Halloween
For Halloween I was the Point Person for Marketing and Promo. I communicated with the other groups, I delegated tasks to my group members, and I also recorded announcements. I also helped with decorating for Halloween and decorating the Boo-Grams bulletin board.
On the actual day of Halloween I walked around with Morgan and Lanna and handed out the tickets for the costume contest draw.
Spirit Assembly
For this year’s spirit assembly, I was officially part of the Marketing and Promotion team. As per my duties, I wrote and recorded the announcement for the Spirit Assembly.
For the actual assembly, I was part of Station Crew, and I was at the Sac Race part of the course, where I explained the rules to the people who came to me.
Apart from my obligatory duties, I also assisted the Hype Crew by hyping up the people who did the obstacle course (see the pictures below) and cheering until I lost my voice. I also noticed that the first loading into the gym wasn’t as smooth as it could have been the first time, so the second time I stood on the bleachers and assisted with loading and directing the grade 9s and 10s to their designated spots.
All in all, it was a successful Spirit Assembly, and I’m proud of myself and the work that I did.
Meet The Teacher Night
I volunteered for 2 hours on September 28th, from 6:30 to 8:30. I was stationed in the Lower A Wing.
Terry Fox Announcements
I spent 3 hours during Block 2 (alongside Morgan and Rachel) on Monday, September 18th, and Tuesday, September 19th. We went around to classes and read out the script Mr. Martin provided us with, informing the classes about both the Terry Fox run and the donation collecting this year.

Reflection
1.) Health
For health, I have three pictures: a woman walking, a forest, and a bed. These all relate to health because my favourite way of getting exercise is going on nature walks and hikes. I find those both very good ways of not only going outside to get fresh air and vitamin D, but also also practicing mindfulness. Whenever I get overwhelmed, I like to go out for a walk. The bed image is there because getting good quality sleep is also very important to me. I like sleeping, and I do it every night. It’s necessary to have sufficient sleep to function, because without it people can struggle in their waking life.
2.) Education/ Wealth
For education/ wealth, i have images of a book, a typewriter, and the UBC logo. These images are significant because I love reading and writing. English has always been my strong subject throughout my school years, and took English Honours in grade 9 (and again in grade 10), and I would love to go into a career where I can write for a living, like a journalist or author. UBC is a university that I am definitely considering going to in the future, because I want to go to a university and UBC is a very good school that happens to be close.
3.) Relationships
For relationships, I have pictures of a movie theatre, shopping bags, and two friends making a heart with their hands. The last one is self explanatory, but the other two require a more in depth explanation. The shopping bags represent going out to different malls and stores, while the theatre is just itself. These two things are my go-to things to do with my friends when I want to hang out with them. Despite always spending money when I do them, I always have fun, which is the most important thing. I’m not a terribly extroverted person, but I have lots of friends, and I’m pleased with the strong bonds I have with them.
4.) Happiness
For happiness, most of my favourite activities were in the other categories (ie the walks, writing, reading), but I added two more pictures for this section. An image of someone drawing and an archery target. Why? That’s because I like drawing (I did take visual arts 9, after all) and I would consider art a hobby of mine. I’m not a very sporty person, and the one sport that I actually do outside of school is archery (hence the target image), which I not only enjoy, but am quite proficient at.
