Throughout leadership, I have learned skills and allowed my other skills to shine through, doing things I hadnβt been able to do in the past. During my midterm, I spoke about how leadership had allowed me to let go of some insecurity and I had grown used to forcing myself to speak up and be confident, subsequently letting me do things I had previously been too self-conscious to do. Having spent a full school year in leadership, I can easily say that I now feel fully equipped to handle whatever challenges come my way in leadership next year β the experience that Iβve gained from this course this year has given me a close look at how things are done, and how to run and help with events to the best of my ability in the future.
Being part of leadership events, however, has also taught me how much I like being involved in these events and helping create them. Seeing all the work that goes into it and participating in the production of said events has made me feel more fulfilled than I ever anticipated I would have at the start of this course, and Iβm eager to continue with leadership. Iβve done leadership-esque things in both elementary and middle school, but this is the first time that Iβve ever felt a sense of connection and teamwork between the entire group of students. Community is what we are trying to build, and while we might not have always achieved it with the school, we certainly achieved it amongst ourselves.
I would say, then, that this course has taught me about confidence, not taking yourself too seriously, teamwork, sacrificing your time for the greater good, and of course, leadership. My growth as a person this year hasnβt necessarily been just because of leadership, but certainly a small portion of it can be attributed to that, and Iβm extremely glad that I chose to take leadership (and grateful, that I got in, and hoping that I get in again next year).
