Reflection 1 – My Goals for This Year

Goal 1 for Family & Friends:

My first goal is to make more friends throughout the semester. Throughout school, especially high school, it is very beneficial and important to make good connections and relationships with friends and peers. They can help you when you are facing a tough time and life becomes more fun. To achieve this, being positive and having a positive aura can help build new friendships and connections with people I haven’t met before. Throughout the whole school year, I want to build new relationships with people I have not met before, such as other peers that come from other middle schools.

Goal 2 for Family & Friends:

My second goal is to build more connections and relationships with friends. Similar to my first goal, building closer connections and relations to friends can help you get through tough times and they can have a very positive influence on you. Hanging out more with friends, being positive, and helping each other can build a closer connection and relationship. In this semester, I want to hang out with friends more and help them if they need it everyday during lunch or in class.

Goal 3 for Family & Friends:

My third goal is to do more chores at home to help my family. My parents do not ask me to do my chores, which I think is bad for my future because then I wouldn’t know how to keep my house clean and all of that when I am older, which I should develop knowledge in these years. My parents already go to work, so helping them do chores around the house is very cool and beneficial for my future. To do more chores, I would just learn how to wash dishes and do my own laundry when I have time throughout the school year. I already know how to wash dishes, so I will learn how do my laundry.

Goal 1 for Education:

My first goal in this semester for education is to familiarize myself with math. From summer break to now, I forgot many skills I learned such as geometry and algebra. This is not good for me because math is an important skill needed in life for things such as money and cooking. Math in my household is also a very important subject, understanding more of it will be very helpful later on. To build better math fundamentals, my goal is to use things like Khan Academy or IXL to boost my math knowledge by doing it at least 30 minutes per day so I understand the basics of math that I will learn next semester. As this semester progresses, my goal will be achieved if I have understand the concepts of math to be learned next semester and previously.

Goal 2 for Education:

My second goal for education is to get a better work ethic in doing homework and schoolwork. Currently, it takes me longer than it should to complete assignments at home because I am often off focus. Later on in school, I will get more homework and work to do. If my work ethic is really bad and I always get off focus, then I will struggle in completing work on time and to the best of my ability. To get a better work ethic, I should put away my phone and focus on completing work fully and restrict usage of my phone when I am working because my phone is a primary reason why I get off focus. This should boost my focus because my phone can become very distracting with notifications popping up and everything. As the semester and school year progresses, I would know if my work ethic has gotten better if I feel that I have more time than before after I finish completing assignments.

Goal 3 for Education:

My third goal for education is to get better studying habits. I currently only review material for tests by just reading. This method is just the easiest and quickest way to study, yet it is not an most efficient method. I want to be able to study more efficiently by using ways of studying such as flashcards and making your own practice tests. To study more efficiently, I will slowly transition myself into using methods such as flashcards and making your own practice tests other than reading material that will be in the test. As I study more, I would know if my studying habits are getting better when I study. If my understanding is more expanded than before, this means my goal has been achieved.

Goal 1 for Health:

My first goal for my health is to play basketball more often and improve. During middle school, I played basketball a lot, starting from grade 6. I even joined the basketball team every year from grade 6 to 8. Last summer, I also played basketball a lot of friends. While playing basketball, I became more active instead of staying home most of the day. However, I currently play basketball less often. I want to play basketball more often to be more active, which is beneficial for my health. To improve this, I want to invite my friends out more to play basketball at Pinetree drop-ins or just at the elementary school nearby. I want to play basketball as often as during the summer, which was a few hours a day for like 3 days per week. Playing basketball and being more active can help improve your heart because of the cardio involved in the game. This is also an opportunity to build better connections with friends through basketball. If I see myself improving in basketball, this means I have achieved my goal in becoming more active, improving my health, and using this opportunity to build better connections with friends.

Goal 2 for Health:

My second goal for health is to build better eating habits. For breakfast, lunch, and dinner, I would say my diet is balanced. I eat rice, some sort of vegetable, a type of meat, sometimes egg, and a side dish together. However, I feel I am not eating enough fruits or vegetables. The only fruits I eat at home are mainly just apples and oranges. If I increase the variety of fruits or vegetables I eat, my health can improve even better. To eat more fruits and vegetables, I want to buy more varieties of fruits and eat some of the fruit everyday until I acquire the taste because some fruits and vegetables have flavours I don’t like. If I slowly eat more of it, I will acquire the taste and the flavour I didn’t like will become something that I might like or become a flavour that I neither like or dislike. If I feel that I am eating a lot larger variety of foods, this means that I have achieved my goal of building better eating habits.

Goal 3 for Health:

My third goal for health is to get better sleep. The amount of sleep I get on weekdays are around 7-8 hours, which I think is good. However, in the mornings, I still find it extremely difficult to get out of bed and that in the morning I have no focus whatsoever. I want to go to sleep more early at night, more closer to 10 pm at night. Compared to my peers, I get a lot more sleep than them. However, I want to get a better sleep to become more focused in the morning and improve my brain and health. To begin to start sleeping earlier, my goal is to do evening and night activities earlier than usual and give time for me to get to sleep at around 10 pm. If I feel more energized and focused in the morning, I will know that my quality of sleep has improved and my goal has been achieved.
