š¬ April Blog: Stars, Sweat & Satisfaction! š
April brought the vibesāand a whole lot of responsibilityāas I stepped into the role of point person for our āMovie Under the Starsā event alongside Tara and Jana! šæāØ
At first, I was super excited. Movie night? Under the stars? Count me in! But plot twist: I originally thought the event was on a Friday… and then found out it was actually on a Thursdayāthe same night as my LSI & SI courses! š¬ I was honestly crushed. Iād put so much effort into this event already, and finding out I couldnāt be there was heartbreaking. But leadership means adaptingāand I chose to lean in rather than back out. I had a chat with Mr. Mac, and we agreed that I was in charge of most of the prep work.
š ļø Prep, Plan, and Push Through! Even though I couldnāt be there on the night-of, I took on a huge role in the lead-up. I basically lived in prep mode! From daily check-ins on Instagram to lunch meetings with Tara and Jana, I made sure no detail got left behind (or tried my best too). A lot of people underestimated just how much time and effort it takes to plan an event like this. We were still selling tickets the day before! It was kind of chaotic at times, and it didnāt always go smoothlyābut we kept pushing through. We communicated with Mr. Mac, re-strategized our setup, and got marketing rolling even when it felt like we were racing the clock. It was stressful, but also super rewarding. š„
šÆ Theme Connection: Project Planning, Self-Awareness & Communication
This event challenged all parts of me as a leaderāfrom staying organized and flexible, to being patient with the process. It directly hit key leadership competencies like:
ā Project Planning:
-
Took ownership of setting up sales systems, organizing roles, and working with others to problem-solve last-minute issues.
-
Managed time (and stress!) while balancing school, leadership, and my LSI/SI courses.
ā Self-Awareness & Personal Leadership:
-
I had to let go of the āfunā part (being at the actual event) and still keep showing up. That was hard.
-
It made me realize leadership isnāt about being in the spotlightāitās about building the foundation so others can shine too.
ā Public Relations & Communication:
- I used public speaking for daily announcements and helped create a eye-catching board and reels to promote the event!
- Communicated regularly with my co-leads, marketing, and Mr. Macāeven when things got hectic.
Even more than that, I had to stay calm when things werenāt going smoothly. Selling tickets last-minute, realizing how close we were cutting timelinesāit taught me to be flexible, quick on my feet, and focused on problem-solving. We learned a lot about time management and how important it is to start early and stay consistent.
š Missing the Night: Iām honestly still upset I couldnāt be there. Watching videos and seeing everyone have fun made me proudābut also made me wish I couldāve been part of that moment in person. It was tough. But in a way, it made me realize that being a leader isnāt just about showing up for the big momentsāitās about all the work you put in beforehand to make those moments happen.
š Final Thoughts: Stars, Sweat & Satisfaction This event showed me just how much goes into planning something from the ground upāand how important it is to work as a team, communicate clearly, and stay positive even when things get hectic. It wasnāt perfect, but it was REAL. And honestly? Thatās what made it special. šš¼
I missed the movie, but I didnāt miss my moment to lead. And thatās what counts. š
Canāt wait to see what May brings! š·š¢
