Spirit Assembly – September 18th 2024

INVOLVEMENT

For this event, I attended crew meetings, and constantly stayed in contact with members of my team, especially those I knew personally. Despite missing the meeting prior to the assembly, I made sure constantly stay in touch with my crew members to figure out my role for the event. As a member of the stations crew, I helped take care of set up and take down for the musical chairs event, as well as some set up and clean up of extra equipment. We rehearsed before the assembly, and dealt with any uncertainly or last minute adjustments beforehand.

My Curricular competencies:

Understand and use effective decision-making skills.

Develop listening skills needed to be a positive leader and active listener.

What i did to demonstrate these competencies:

Because this was my first ever mandatory leadership event for the school, I made it a priority to pay attention to all the instructions given by the leadership coordinators, and the point people. Especially after missing the meeting prior to the assembly, every few days I had been in consistent communicate with Epshie (one of our PP’S), and other team members to regularly stay updated with plans. In the second crew meeting, we went over the flexibility of our schedule and assigned specific roles within our activity.

On the day of the assembly, I met up with my crew to rehearse the musical chairs event, where we ironed out details like spacing, and when to take out/put back the chairs. I also did the extremely important task of testing the balloon-pop event that we did for the gr9-10 assembly. When there was confusion regarding the grade distribution for the event, I made sure to clarify everything with my point people, and update other station members that had not been informed. While my role had not been as strenuous compared to others, my goal was to execute tasks as efficiently as possible, and not try to float around when extra help was needed. I did this through contributing to the set up and taking down, and putting down the gym mats by the doors, as well as cleaning and stacking the chairs at the end of the event. When students were loading into the gym, I focused on maintaining tons of energy and enthusiasm alongside my peers, and just overall enjoying the event. By effectively understanding and completing my tasks, and then assisting my peers when needed, I believe I achieved my desired competencies for this event.
