Candy Guessing Game – October 31st – (word document version of response / without evidence)

Involvement

First leadership meeting – October 9th

For the first leadership meeting, we discussed tasks we wanted to complete before the event and determined that we wanted to work on the advertisement poster, decorations, and ticket creations.

  • That day I took the role of designing the poster and some decorations.
  • I used ChatGPT to come up with a base template for the poster background and used Canva to compile all the information and extra information for the poster.
  • When I went home and finished the poster that day, I made sure to also be in contact with my point person, to update any information that we would put on the poster.
    • The next day I made some suggested changes to the poster, and put in the confirmed event date, ticket rates, and location.

When discussing what decorations, we had in mind for our event:

  • I suggested making some cutout pumpkins to put on the table as it would better match the Hallo-week spirit.
  • I offered to bring resources and share any materials needed for when we get together to work on these decorations. We also determined that we would be filming our promotional video at the next meeting.
  • I offered to be a human dummy in our promotion video to hopefully create a more engaging Instagram reel.

October 16th 2nd leadership meeting of the month

  • I made sure to confirm poster design with Ms. MacPherson, who printed out copies which our point put up across the school.

October 23rd Personal group meeting – on October,

  • I met up with my group and filmed our promotional video for the event.
  • As promised, I took on the role as the human dummy for the candy guessing event. We got it done in a few takes, and Pat sent the video over to Mr. Lee that day.

Final Leadership meeting before event October 30th

  • For our final meeting before the big day, I compiled the designs I had researched for our table decorations, which i then printed, cut out, and put together after school.
    • Those decorations consisted of stand up cut out pumpkins that I printed out that day and cut up.

Day of event – October 31st

  • On the day of the event, I took the role of promoting the event as much as possible to the Pinetree public. That consisted of:
    • Asking friends / classmates to participate in the event
    • Convincing unsuspecting grade 9’s to participate in their first leadership-run event and show some Pinetree spirit.
    • Communicating with group members to decide what bargains / discounts we would put out to help create more engagement
    • Confidingly handed out tickets to students and lead them to the table to increase participation in the event.

Curricular competencies & Actions Taken

Develop short-term and long-term personal goals that are measurable and realistic,,,
Recognize why it is important to be a team player,,,
Create diverse and interesting announcements, posters, and other media to get information to the student body or intended people,,,

Personal and challenging family matters arose this month.

Throughout October, I spent a significant amount of time at the hospital or with family, which added considerable stress as I managed upcoming tests, math honors & contests, personal club meetings, science fair projects, and my leadership roles.

Initially, I believed I could balance all those things at once; however, I soon realized that the cumulative demands began to feel overwhelming. What started as a few hours here and there eventually escalated to multiple days where I overworked myself. This led me to recognize the need for a more structured plan through the end of the month to avoid intense short-term cramming or potential burnout from intense workloads. I accomplished this by implementing a few essential strategies, which have been highly beneficial so far. Some of the strategies / actions taken were:

  • Scheduling events with proper spacing rather than crowding them into a single day. In the past, I tended to over commit on certain days, which often resulted in temporary burnout the following day, leaving me with little motivation to accomplish anything. That’s why i began to give myself more time / space in between my work sessions, where i could have a mental break and not worry so much about school.
  • I also went back to exercising more, and some rehabilitation after injuring my lower back in the summer which had defiantly added to some of the stress i had earlier.
  • Being in constant communications of future test dates so i would know to prepare ahead of time.
  • Making sure to spread out workload evenly for my event, so for example. \
    • First couple meetings focus on poster
    • Next few meetings focus on marketing
    • And final meetings would be putting together the decorations
      • Spacing out these events would not only significantly reduce the weight of my role but would also allow me to put more thought into each of my responsibilities, rather than rushing to get them done in the first 2 meetings.
        • From this, I was also able to really enjoy the process, whether it was making a fun promotional video, or designing a spirited Halloween poster, In my opinion I think the event ended up going really well, and while it may not have been as big as a spirit assembly, I believe that I managed to tackle many significant aspects of my personal course goals during this event.
