The Spirit Assembly (9/18/2024) was a meaningful experience for me, as it was my first time participating in an assembly. I was part of the stations crew, mainly in charge of the takedown and setup of the “Balloon Pop” game, where students would race to pop a balloon on a chair. I also supported the hype crew by cheering on participants and energizing the audience.
In this spirit assembly, leadership students who were more experienced than me, helped me when I needed it. Some things they showed me how to do were things such as skills required to lead a team and how to effectively plan events. The main curricular competency that I feel I demonstrated through this event was “Demonstrate and apply problem solving skills.” During the event, I noticed that when others were setting up the first musical chairs game of the day, most students that were in charge weren’t taking action and were just watching, and although I wasn’t part of the musical chairs group, I quickly joined in to help move in the chairs to properly set it up. This shows that I demonstrated and applied my problem-solving skills throughout this process and learned an important lesson about adaptability and teamwork.
