November Event – Grade 9 Day

November 27, 2024

Event Participation

I participated in the after-school event, helping with planning, running the event, and cleaning up afterward. At first, I was assigned to be in charge of security, but after one of our meetings, my role was changed to working as a Sundae Barista. I attended meetings where we planned the event, created a shopping list, and assigned jobs. During the event, I helped set up the library by arranging chairs and tables. As a Sundae Barista, I added sundae sauce to students’ ice creams, making sure they got the toppings they wanted.

Curricular Competency

The curricular competency I chose was to be able to identify components of an effective activity.
This event helped me practice identifying the important parts of planning a good activity because planning and running any effective event needs good communication, such as sharing ideas and making sure everyone’s opinions were heard before decisions were made. Being able to talk and work well with others is an important skill for solving problems and building strong relationships with classmates and teachers.

Actions Taken
Before the event, I contributed to two meetings where we brainstormed ideas, decided on activities, and made a shopping list to give to the teacher.  Originally, I was in charge of security, but during a meeting, my role was switched to helping at the ice cream bar.

During the event, I arrived early to help set up and worked at the sundae bar, where I was in charge of adding sundae sauce to the ice creams (And earned my title as the drizzle master among the grade 9s). I also helped students find the trash can and made sure the area stayed clean.

After the event, I helped clean up by wiping tables, stacking chairs, and organizing the materials we used.

Evidence

Before the event, during the planning meetings, I contributed ideas and helped decide which activities would work best. For example, we decided to exclude the movie since it wouldn’t appeal to most students and instead chose activities like board games and an ice cream bar. This demonstrated my ability to evaluate and prioritize components that would make the event more enjoyable and effective.

During the event, I took on the role of Sundae Barista, where I added sundae sauce to students’ ice creams, making sure they got their preferred toppings. I engaged with students positively, earning the nickname “Drizzle Master” from the grade 9s, and kept my station clean and organized. These actions showed my ability to adapt and contribute to the event’s success while interacting with others in a friendly and professional way.

After the event, I helped clean up by wiping tables, stacking chairs, and putting materials away. I also participated in providing feedback about the event’s successes and areas for improvement, such as suggesting competitions or prizes for future events. This reflects my focus on evaluating and refining activities to ensure they are more effective and engaging next time.
