Scavenger Hunt – October event

Event Participation: From the very start of the creation of this event, I attended many meetings, along with others to help plan and create pictures needed for the event. The first 2 meetings were just informative sessions to let us know about the plan and how to do it affectively, we were told what the initial idea was, how the participants would get their prizes, and what the prizes would be. After that, I chose what role I would have during the event, I chose to be in charge of lower A, along with 2 other people. My role was to encourage people to join in the fun and look for the pictures. During the next meeting, we were told to go to a class to help make the pictures needed for the scavenger hunt, and, although I attended, it seems that there had been a mistake, where we didn’t have enough papers to cut, so I wasn’t really able to do much, and the meeting only lasted a few minutes. The last meeting was 2 days before the event, and it was mainly a final recap of what we were to do and when to do it, I was also told to go to the foyer 30 minutes before ESS ended to help hide the pictures. On the day of the event, I did what I was told, I left ESS about 35 minutes early and went to the foyer. When I got there, I noticed that there weren’t many people in the foyer, but I saw the point person in charge of the event and asked her. She let me know that someone else came before me and was already hiding the pictures and that there were none left, so she let me go back to my ESS class. When lunch came by, which was when the event was happening, I quickly headed to the foyer, wrote my name on the attendance list, and headed to my area. When I was in my area, I met with my other leadership mate and got ready. I had an extra poster, so I showed it to people walking around in the halls, and in classes, telling them that they should participate in the scavenger hunt for chances to win prizes and enter a draw. Many seemed interested in playing while others just brushed it off and got on with their lunch. I feel that more people would have been interested if it was advertised more and more often, such as on the announcements. After all of the pictures in my area were taken, and lunch was nearing to its end, I went back to the foyer. Finally, at the end of the day I helped to take down any posters or flyers of the scavenger hunt and brought it back. Overall the event was successful, with students happy with their prizes and bringing our school community together.

Curricular Competency: The main competency that I worked on was “· Demonstrate and identify individual accountability while working within a team.”

This aligns with my course goals because it improves my own personal development because of how I should be able to trust myself to attend meetings and follow timelines.

Actions Taken:

  •  Before main event: Some things I did to work on this goal, were things like making sure to pay attention to teams and have notifications on at all times and of course showing up to the meetings on time. Right before the event, during ESS, I came to the foyer to help hide the stickers, and although there were none left for me to hide. It is definitely still important for me to show up to those kinds of things.
  • During main event: During the main event I held myself accountable to be able to talk and advertise the event to kids walking in halls or in classes. I didn’t completely rely on the others also in my designated area to do the work for me.
  • After main event: When lunch was almost over and the stickers in my area were gone, I went back to the foyer to meet with the others and take the group photo. After school, I helped to take down any posters that were still remaining in the halls

Evidence:

  • I attended all group meetings, and other things that I was instructed to attend.
  • I convinced many people to find or look for the scavenger hunt items and told them what to do when they found it.
  • I took part in the school photo and took down a poster that wasn’t needed anymore.
