December Event- Spirit Week (Hot Chocolate Stand)
December 19, 2024
Event Participation: In the month of December, I had chose to participate in Spirit Week! I attended each meeting regulary, the first being where we had broken off into smaller groups where we worked together to come up with a plan for that day. Pat, Arisa and I helped with the marketing aspect of this event. We stayed after to school to prepare and record a short video which was then posted onto the Pinetree Instagram account. On the day of the event, I had left my block 3 class 15 minutes before lunch to help with the set up. Myself and a couple other team members went to the staff room to roll out the Hot Water dispenser to the foyer. I had also assisted in setting up tables around the foyer, and all other needed materials for our stand. During the event, I was handling the money ensuring enough money was given and I was giving enough change back to students. When we had less students in the foyer, I went out into populated areas (cafeteria, gym, etc) to ensure students knew that we were selling hot chocolate in the foyer for only a dollar! After the event, I helped put away the tables, clean up unused materials and the area to ensure that the area was neat and tidy.
Curricular Competency: Theme 5: Work as an effective team member
How it aligns with my course goals:
- Advertising throughout the school: Due to many other events occuring the day of, my group and I noticed there were not many students coming up to our booth. In hopes to attract more customers, I went around the school urging students to come check out our Hot Chocolate booth and pictures with Santa and his elf! Doing this had enhanced my public speaking skills, making me more confident with my voice.
- Volunteered to help market the event: During our first meeting, we were broken off into smaller groups where team members and I began to plan out the marketing aspect of this event. We all communicated and shared ideas to ensure we were all on the same page. At the end, my group and I filmed a reel for the Thursday Event and the 2 other groups filmed one for the themes, and the other group did the Spirit week events!
- Maintaining clear communication with group members: Throughout the event, I regularly communicated with my team members ensure everything was running smoothly and if I needed assistance with anything. Doing this led to no confusion during the events and great teamwork!
Actions taken:
Before: Prior to the event, a form was sent out to our teams channel where team members could upload their ideas. I submitted some ideas being for a Hot Chocolate stand and a theme! After our meeting, my fellow team members and I created a short video to promote the event to students, which was then shared through Instagram.
During: During the event, I helped set up the tables around the foyer, put out the materials and ensuring everything was up to speed. My role was handling the money where I gave back change and ensured the right amount of money was given. At times, there were rushes so I assisted my partners with creating the Hot Chocolate and adding toppings. During the time there were less students approaching our booth, I went around the school promoting the event to attract more customers.
After: After the event, I helped put away the tables, I cleaned up any messes that were left and I made sure all materials were put away. After ensuring that my area was neat and tidy, I headed over to the Santa booth for a group picture!
Evidence:
- I approached students throughout the school promoting our Hot Chocolate booth in hopes to attract more customers! I made sure to include the low price of one dollar and a free candy as well! I went to populated areas such as the lower and upper cafeteria, and the gym where I attracted many customers. This enhanced my public speaking skills, allowing me to be more comfortable speaking up.
- I assisted with the set up and the clean up of the event. During the set up, I helped put out the tables, hot water dispensar and the hot chocolate ingredients. For the clean up, I made sure there were no spills or powder left on the tables, if so I cleaned it up with a paper towel. My group members and I all assisted with putting back the materials that were used, as well as the tables!
- I regulary atteneded each meeting, collaborating with my fellow group members on what ideas they had for marketing and for the event. I asked questions confirming my knowledge and ensuring that I was up to speed with everything.
