Leadership Final Edublog

Summary

Looking back on this past year in Leadership 11, I can confidently say I’ve grown as a student, leader, and person. When I started this course, my goals were to improve my communication, teamwork, and decision-making underneath pressure. After running multiple events such as Spirit Assemblies to Winter Formal and Grade 12 Day, I’ve had so many opportunities to challenge and strengthen these skills in meaningful and hands-on ways.

Key Takeaways

One of the biggest takeaways I’ve had from Leadership is understanding that leadership is rooted in being flexible, empathetic, and proactive. In chaotic moments, like addressing crowds during Spirit Assemblies or stepping in to support team members under stress on Grade 9 Day; I learned I am the type of leader who wants to help others succeed, not just someone who gives directions. Leadership to me is about lifting others up, not just taking the spotlight.

Personal Growth

I’ve also learned how to manage my stress and self-doubt better. Earlier in the year, I often questioned myself and let stress get the better of me. I struggled making decisions under stress both in leadership and everyday life. I have had repeated experiences which trialed my decision-making ability and self-doubt. Whether it was last-minute problems during Grade 9 Day or becoming a point person for Winter formal; I built confidence by trusting my ability to adapt and prep as well as take initiative.

Real-World Application

The skills I’ve developed this year were communication, teamwork, adaptability, public speaking, and problem-solving. Not only are these skills vital in becoming a successful Leadership student, but they are also critical in my future career path. I plan on leading my own accounting law firm in the later years of my career- so leadership skills like communication and problem solving directly apply. These skills also translate into regular life as adaptability and teamwork are crucial in maintaining relationships with other people. This is especially felt in my own relationship and friendships.

Final Thoughts

I recognize the growth I’ve shown. I’ve stepped into leadership roles, taken initiative when no one else would, and learned to support others with care and intention. Leadership didn’t just teach me how to manage events. This course taught me how to lead with a purpose, practice stronger empathy, and to be more flexible. Of course, I also recognize my faults with scheduling and procrastination as when mentally exhausted I tend to lose track. I will keep trying continue to strive to keep improving. I am grateful for this experience and everyone I’ve worked with this year. It’s been a challenging, fun, and rewarding experience! I hope to come back soon!
