Grade 11 Day
April 16th, 2025
My mandatory event for April was grade 11 day. Our first few meetings we had were just brainstorming ideas. We had to come up with something completely new for this year’s grade 11 day. Our group came up with a neon glow in the dark theme party. We planned on having a variety of stations they could do, a photo booth, scavenger hunt, candy bar, and many more ideas. We then started to advertise the event to get the grade elevens ready for the event. I helped put up posters around the school to bring in more customers. The point people then separated everyone into two groups, decorations and ticket selling. I was assigned to ticket selling. I sold tickets during lunch on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. Monday and Tuesday at lunch sold the least amount of tickets because people were unsure about the event. I then began to tell my grade 11 friends about it and they became interested, and decided to come to the event. At our next meeting we signed up for roles to do at the event. I was in charge of the twister station. It was then time for the event. I came for all of block five to help set up the cafeteria for the event. I helped clear out the tables, set up the photo booth, and my twister station. Then the event began and I was running the twister station. My duties were to spin the wheel, call out the move, and hand out tickets at the end. Everyone enjoyed the twister station because I found there was a lot of people. Once everyone ate, the vibe slowly quiet down and they did the last bits of the event. It was now time for everyone to go home and for leadership to clean up. I cleaned up my station, the photo booth, storing decorations, and moving the tables. Once we finished we were dismissed for the day. At our last meeting, we reflected on how the event went. We talked about what could be improved for next year like marketing and planning. That sums up my participation for grade 11 day.
Theme 5: Demonstrate and apply problem solving skills.
I chose to work on this competency for this event because this event was new for everyone, so I knew there would be a few problems along the way. My theory turned out to be correct. Our biggest problems were selling tickets and marketing. As i mentioned earlier, we were struggling to sell tickets in the beginning. For the first two days, we only sold around 15 tickets which isn’t very good. Our group was trying to figure out why are ticket sales. I decided to go ask some of my grade 11 friends why they didn’t buy tickets. They told me that they didn’t know what the event was and the marketing made it to vague. Once I found this out, I first explained what the event is, and then I went and told my group. Our group decided to push out more marketing that talked more about the event. Once we did that, we started to have way more sales coming through.
