Using Creative Fluency

My Assignment:

The Assignment I choose was my  Social Studies Job Poster that I did this past week. I had to create a job poster for a job from the Industrial Revolution. I choose the job Newsie.

Identify:

The Criteria was set by my Socials Studies teacher. The poster needed:

  • Job Title
  • Description/Conditions of the job
  • A visual with colour (sketch or symbol)

I had already chosen my job, I just needed to research symbols or drawing I could use, and more information about what a newsie is.

Inspire:

To gather information about being a Newsie I looked it up on google.

I saw there was a Disney movie about Newsies. I had heard about it, but never watched it. I decided it was perfect to watch to get an idea of what a Newsie is.

From that movie and other websites on the internet, I had a good idea of what a Newsie is and what they do.

Interpolate:

A lot of the examples I saw had the same old New York city vibe. New York City has a dirty look to it. It was common in the examples I found that Newsies were orphans and lived on the street. As well as a lot of the images I saw had clear block lettering.

Imagine:

I then had all the information I need to start my assignment. Before I did a good copy, I wanted to draft how I would lay it out. I did a skeleton draft on how I wanted the poster to look and I had my “aha” moment. From doing a very bare draft I could already picture the extra bits I wanted to add to my poster.

Inspect:

After I finished my good copy, I looked back at it to make sure I had covered my criteria. I had my job title displayed in block letters, I had incorporated my description and conditions into my symbol/drawing, which was a big newspaper. I also, drew a New York style background with brick buildings and foggy skies and clouds.

There are some things that I would do differently if I had the chance:

1.) I would make my job title a bit bigger. I had already put it on my good copy and it was too late to make it bigger.

2.) I would also add some more detail to make it catch the eye more.
