This is a snippet of research drawings I did in art class. Research drawings are drawings to help you practice capturing aspects of subjects, and brainstorm ideas. The fish in the middle of the picture is a corraline sculpin. I wanted to practice drawing fish, and I think corraline sculpins are gorgeous fish, so I drew one. I think I captured the colour of the fish well, and that I also did well capturing the finer details. While drawing the fish, I was under the pressure of time, which impacted my ability to draw to the best of my abilities. I think if I were to do this drawing again in a similar timeframe, I would focus less on the smaller details and more on larder features like the eyes and tail. Overall, I liked how this research drawing turned out, and in the future I’ll most likely give it another attempt.
