I was a point leader for the Valentine’s Day Spirit Event alongside Carrie. I decided to step outside my comfort zone and apply to be a point person for this event because I had previously not done so. I knew that this was one of the goals I wanted to work on since the midterm because I had yet to employ my organizational skillsets. The first task that we had to complete was deciding what we wanted to do for the event given the time limit we had as well as other events happening at the same time. Even though we had many great ideas brainstormed, we had to be realistic in terms of what leadership could do. With this, Carrie and I held several meetings with our group to discuss what we were doing, how we were setting up, as well as the roles of group members. Then we had 3 afterschool and at-lunch meetings to create the heart decorations and posters we hung up. We also held a scavenger hunt where the winner won a cafeteria coupon. My experience as a point person was completely different than being a group member. I felt that because I like to be so organized, it was a bit difficult getting things done when others would not put in the same amount of effort that I do. I had to reshape some of our organizational plans so they best fit the skills of our group members. Overall, knowing that I attempted to be a point person and was successful, I don’t think I wanted to do it again because it was frustrating not getting the same amount of participation back.
