April Event- Movie Under the Stars

April 24, 2025

Event Participation – Movie Under the Stars

For this month’s event, I served as one of the point people for Movie Under the Stars. As a point person, my responsibilities included directing, leading, and providing guidance to my group members, as well as assigning tasks.

Our planning began with a group discussion where my partners and I shared our ideas and goals for the event, since this was our first time ever running it. We made collaborative decisions as a team, and I made sure to actively listen and consider everyone’s input. The other point people and I organized meetings to keep the team aligned with our plan. During these meetings, we discussed marketing and reels, food details, and sometimes even worked on decorations together.

As the event approached we realized we were quite behind on preparing which made us all stressed, so we quickly put our foot on the pedel and began to work. Baran helped with the marketing aspect of this event (reels and posters), while we all played roles in helping with the execution of the event. As the event date approached, we created a schedule for ticket sales, ensuring a point person was present each day. I helped sell tickets on the Wednesday before the event, while Baran and Tara covered the other days. We also designed an eye-catching, abstract poster board to promote the event. Huge shoutout to Dowar and Lincoln for helping Tara and me with the poster, they played a major role in making it look as appealing as it did!

I also organized a meeting where we assembled candy bags, ensuring each one was evenly packed. On the day of the event, Tara, Dowar, and I finished preparing and storing the bags. We assisted Chami and his partner in setting up the big screen for the movie. At 5:30 p.m., the rest of the group arrived, and we directed them on their roles and responsibilities, finalizing our final game plan.

Doors opened at 6:45 p.m., and as students began to arrive, I walked around to ensure everything was running smoothly. I even got to be on aux for a while, which was a lot of fun! After the event, we all pitched in for clean-up—putting away tables, picking up garbage, and restoring the area to its original condition.

A special thank you to Tara, Yusef, Aya, Khadija, Brendon, and I for cleaning the very dirty popcorn machine! We all worked as a team and cleaned the popcorn machine as if it was brand new!

Although we had a rocky start, the event turned out to be a great success! Our team was incredibly supportive, and we couldn’t have pulled it off without their creativity, teamwork, and dedication.Special thanks to Mr. Mac and Ms. Rioux for their raw feedback, which really motivated us to push ourselves and do better.

Curricular Competency and how it aligns with my course goal: · Identify and develop various roles/responsibilities within a group.

  • By listening to others ideas and taking them into consideration during planning, which strengthened my ability to collaborate and connect ideas.
  • By being apart of a team and stepping into a leadership role, I began to overcome my tendency to keep to myself.
  • Assisting in organizing meetings, distrubuted tickets and ensured my group members understood the overall plan of the event and their assigned roles.

Actions Taken: Explain what you did to work towards or achieve this competency.

Before:

  • I collobarated with the other point people and our group to brainstorm ideas and outline the goals for the event.
  • I assigned roles to the Wednesday selling group to ensure we would get more sales.
  • I helped design an eye-catching poster board with the help from Tara, Dowar, and Lincoln, which helped attract attention.

During:

  • I confirmed and further elaborated on my group members roles and responsibilities once they arrived, making sure the event will run smoothly.
  • I assisted in creating the final candy bags with Dowar and Tara.
  • I remained present throughout the event, ensuring the event was running smoothly and there was no complications.

After:

  • I reflected on the experience by acknowledging what went well and what needed growth.
  • I participated in putting away the tables, collecting garbage left on the ground, and ensuring the space looked exactly how it was prior to the event.
  • I helped cleaned the popcorn machine. I worked alongside with Tara, Yusuf, Aya, Brendon and Khadija to remove the grease and thoroughly clean the inside of the machine.

Evidence: Provide strong, concrete examples of your efforts and achievements. Ensure your leadership teacher can understand this evidence.

  • I organized and helped lead group meetings with the other point people where we discussed our goals, assigned tasks, and worked through the logistics of the event. This shows my ability to identify roles (like creating candy bags, ticket selling, decorators, set-up/clean-up crews) and develop responsibilities by making sure everyone had a job that matched their strengths. It also helped build my communication and leadership skills two of my course goals.

  • Although Baran created the ticket sales schedule, I helped by selling tickets on Wednesday and making sure things were organized and running smoothly at the table. This highlights my willingness to step into a group role and take initiative when needed. It shows that I could work within the structure of our group and contribute in a way that supported our shared goal. It also gave me a chance to interact with students, which helped me grow in my sales-person skills, confidence and communication.

  • On the day of the event, I helped direct our group members when they arrived at 5:30. I explained their responsibilities, answered questions, and made sure everyone was confident in their role before doors opened. This emphasized my developing roles within a group and taking on a leadership position. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me become more confident in using my voice directly supporting my goal of being more a confident and leadership throughout this course.

February Event- Valentines Day

February 14, 2025

Event Participation: For this month I decided to participate in the Valentines Day event! I was apart of the decoration crew, where there were meetings held during lunch to help create decorations for the poster board. I attended all the set meetings during lunch and created decorations such as letters to spell out “Valentines Day” on the poster board and shapes to stick around it to make the board look appealing. During one of our leadership meetings, I helped put on a cover for the board and we discussed where we should put the decorations to make it as aesthetically pleasing as possible!

Curricular Competency and how it aligns with my course goals: Work with others to create an effective promotional component to the project

  • During our decoration meetings, we were each assigned specific tasks to create decorations for the poster board. I actively collaborated with my peers to ensure accuracy and efficiency, regularly checking in with them to share ideas and offer assistance. By working together, we ensured that our designs were cohesive and that we stayed on schedule. This experience aligned with my course goals by enhancing my communication skills, my ability to work in a team setting, and improving my problem-solving skills when challenges occured.

Action Taken:

Before: Before the event, I attended multiple meetings where I helped create decorations for the poster board such as little hearts and cutting out letters to spell out “Valentines Day”, I helped clean up after each decoration session and made sure to ask the point people if they needed any extra assistence.

During: During the day of the event the decoration crew was not needed but I made sure to go to the foyer and see how it ended up looking like (which looked amazing)!

After: After the event, I attended our leadership meeting where we gave our point people feedback on what went well and what we could have done to make the event even better!

Evidence:

  • I attended all the meetings that were set
  • I collobarated with my peers and ask for assistance when needed.
  • I cut out 3d hearts and letters to put onto the poster board.
  • I helped put away the materials that were used to create the decorations.
  • During our leadship meeting, I helped staple on coloured paper onto the poster board.

December Event- Spirit Week (Hot Chocolate Stand)

December 19, 2024

Event Participation: In the month of December, I had chose to participate in Spirit Week! I attended each meeting regulary, the first being where we had broken off into smaller groups where we worked together to come up with a plan for that day. Pat, Arisa and I helped with the marketing aspect of this event. We stayed after to school to prepare and record a short video which was then posted onto the Pinetree Instagram account. On the day of the event, I had left my block 3 class 15 minutes before lunch to help with the set up. Myself and a couple other team members went to the staff room to roll out the Hot Water dispenser to the foyer. I had also assisted in setting up tables around the foyer, and all other needed materials for our stand. During the event, I was handling the money ensuring enough money was given and I was giving enough change back to students. When we had less students in the foyer, I went out into populated areas (cafeteria, gym, etc) to ensure students knew that we were selling hot chocolate in the foyer for only a dollar! After the event, I helped put away the tables, clean up unused materials and the area to ensure that the area was neat and tidy.

Curricular Competency: Theme 5: Work as an effective team member

How it aligns with my course goals:

  • Advertising throughout the school: Due to many other events occuring the day of, my group and I noticed there were not many students coming up to our booth. In hopes to attract more customers, I went around the school urging students to come check out our Hot Chocolate booth and pictures with Santa and his elf! Doing this had enhanced my public speaking skills, making me more confident with my voice.
  • Volunteered to help market the event: During our first meeting, we were broken off into smaller groups where team members and I began to plan out the marketing aspect of this event. We all communicated and shared ideas to ensure we were all on the same page. At the end, my group and I filmed a reel for the Thursday Event and the 2 other groups filmed one for the themes, and the other group did the Spirit week events!
  • Maintaining clear communication with group members: Throughout the event, I regularly communicated with my team members ensure everything was running smoothly and if I needed assistance with anything. Doing this led to no confusion during the events and great teamwork!

Actions taken:

Before: Prior to the event, a form was sent out to our teams channel where team members could upload their ideas. I submitted some ideas being for a Hot Chocolate stand and a theme! After our meeting, my fellow team members and I created a short video to promote the event to students, which was then shared through Instagram.

During: During the event, I helped set up the tables around the foyer, put out the materials and ensuring everything was up to speed. My role was handling the money where I gave back change and ensured the right amount of money was given. At times, there were rushes so I assisted my partners with creating the Hot Chocolate and adding toppings. During the time there were less students approaching our booth, I went around the school promoting the event to attract more customers.

After: After the event, I helped put away the tables, I cleaned up any messes that were left and I made sure all materials were put away. After ensuring that my area was neat and tidy, I headed over to the Santa booth for a group picture!

Evidence:

  • I approached students throughout the school promoting our Hot Chocolate booth in hopes to attract more customers! I made sure to include the low price of one dollar and a free candy as well! I went to populated areas such as the lower and upper cafeteria, and the gym where I attracted many customers. This enhanced my public speaking skills, allowing me to be more comfortable speaking up.
  • I assisted with the set up and the clean up of the event. During the set up, I helped put out the tables, hot water dispensar and the hot chocolate ingredients. For the clean up, I made sure there were no spills or powder left on the tables, if so I cleaned it up with a paper towel. My group members and I all assisted with putting back the materials that were used, as well as the tables!
  • I regulary atteneded each meeting, collaborating with my fellow group members on what ideas they had for marketing and for the event. I asked questions confirming my knowledge and ensuring that I was up to speed with everything.

November Event- Parent Teacher Interviews

November Event: Parent-Teacher Interviews (November 28, 2024)

Event Participation: For the Parent-Teacher Interviews, I went to the only meeting where Vy went over the plan regarding the event, where I volunteered to help with the traffic in the beginning of the event. For the first 20 minutes of the event, I had volunteered to help stand outside the school and direct parents where to park their vehicles. During this time, I stood outside with Alice and Vy, informing parents that if they chose to park here, they would have to pay a parking fee. I was informed that I was moved to cover the lower A wing instead of the foyer. During my time working on the lower A wing, I directed lost parents to where the class they were looking for is, I went up to parents and offered any assistance they needed and creeated small talk with some of them while they were waiting. During the quieter times of the afternoon, I decided to study for my math test, conviently there was a table that I could work on, while still being visible to parents if assistance is needed.

Curricular Competency: Be a visible and confident leader within the school/community (Theme 2: Self-awareness and personal leadership)

How this competency aligns with my course goals:

  •  Walking up to and assisting parents who looked “lost” or “confused” with where they were suppose to be: I actively scanned the area who appeared unsure or seemed to be looking around for direction. When I noticed someone who looked lost or confused, I approached them with a friendly demeanor, asking if they needed any assistance. I provided parents with specific, easy-to-follow directions and ensured they knew where to go.
  • Confidently answering questions parents had regarding the interviews, parking, etc: I made sure to be well aware with information about the events such as parking and location. When parents asked me about interview times, I let them know that sometimes the interviews go over the time range and not too worry. If parents had questions about the parking, I let them know to park over the over-pass, and if they decided to park at the Pinetree Community Center they would have to pay a parking fee.
  • Creating an inclusive atmosphere: I actively made eye contact with parents as I interacted with them to ensure that they felt welcome. I presented myself in an approachable way, ensuring parents know that I am here for assistance. During the quieter times, I would approach parents verbally and inform them if they had any questions I would be more than happy to answer them.

Actions taken:

Before: Before the event I attended the only meeting we had, where Vy (our point person) informed us on where we would be standing and overall roles. During our meeting, I volunteered to help direct traffic on the day of event, which I would be doing for the first 20 minutes of the event.

During: During the event, I first got my name tag and then I stood outside the school directing parents where to park, parking payment and where the entrance is. After 20 minutes, I headed inside to my designated location which was the lower A wing, where my partner Arisa stood by the English classrooms and I stood by the Social Studies classrooms. I presented myself in a postive manner by approaching any parents who seemed confused or lost and offering my assistance and letting myself be seen to all parents if they had any questions.

After: After the event, I made sure nothing by the parents were left on the floor and seats. I had also assisted a few parents on how to leave the building and any last questions they had.  After confirming nothing was left and there were no more parents in my area, I headed to the foyer for a group photo.

Evidence:

  • I approached parents who seemed lost or confused on where they were going and offered my help.  I created small talk with the parents while showing them to the classroom they were looking for. This aligns with my course goal of improving my communcation skills, by interacting with parents, understanding their needs, and guiding them to theclasses.
  • I directed parents on where to park, informing them if they park at the Pinetree Comunity Center requires a fee. Instead, I adivised them to use the free parking avaliable that was located across the overpass. This helped ensure a smoother experience for the parents and save them from unnecessary costs.
  • I maintained clear communication with my fellow group members throughout the night to ensure the event ran smoothly and all the parents knew where to go. If I saw a floater in the hallway, I coordinated with them to assist parents by directing them to classrooms outside my area. Similarly, if a floater needed help with a parent looking for a room in the lower A-wing, I stepped in to guide them. This teamwork and coordination ensured that parents received assistance and contributed to the success of the event!

Course Goals

Learning Objectives: What specific skills or knowledge do you hope to acquire by the end of this course? Explain why these are important to you.:

During this course, I hope to better my leadership skills which will overall contribute to my confidence, and communication + critical thinking skills. Improving my leadership skills will allow me to enhance my communication skills which can help create new relationships in school, share many ideas with my fellow classmates and connect ideas together. I also hope to be more confident in my voice and in myself by the end of this course. This is important to me because I tend to keep to myself most of the time and I hope to change that! Enhancing my critical skills is extremely crucial to me , since it is a huge competency skill used everyday in life. Improving my critical thinking skills through this course will allow me to analyze situations more thoroughly, which will allow me to make better choices in unexpected situations that may occur during this course.

2. Application of Knowledge: How do you plan to apply what you learn in this course to real-world situations or future academic/career pursuits? Provide examples.

I will apply the skills that I aquire to present-day and future career paths. As of right now, a skill I am enhancing day by day is my ability to collaborate with others, which is preparing me for the future and the real world. Being in leadership allows me to collaborate with many different people and in diverse setting, enhancing this particular skill. Building my communication skills will help with everyday life, since communication is an important aspect of life. Learning how to talk through conflicts and getting through them is extremely important and will have me prepared for possible conflicts in the future.

3. Personal Growth: In what ways do you expect this course to contribute to your personal development? Consider aspects such as critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.

I plan for this course to enhance my ability to work in group settings, and my problem-solving skills. By collaborating with different individuals, I aim to improve my communication skills and teamwork. Engaging with new people will not only allow me to share my own ideas, but also encourage me to actively listen and remain open to the perspectives and insights of others. I hope to improve my problem-solving skills when things get tough. By experiencing these scenories, will better equipt me for the real world.

4. Challenges and Strategies: Identify potential challenges you might face in achieving your goals for this course. What strategies will you employ to overcome these challenges?

A potential challenge I may face during this course is balancing my work-life and school work. Since I work 3-4 days a week it may be difficult for me to keep up with certain assignments. A strategy that I have created to hopefully overcome this challenge is to organize myself through a journel by creating deadlines, in hopes to put an end to my procrastanation. Adding on, I plan to limit my screen-time, since technology has a negative impact on my school-work and causes me to push away tasks to the last minute.

Spirit Assembly

For this years 2024 Spirit Assembly I was apart of the secruity crew. In my role, I pariticpated in directing where students needed to sit, while answering questions, putting up signs around the school and in the gym, and directing students in and out of the assembly in a well coordinated manner! One of the themes from the curricular competencies that I have related to from this whole experience is Self-awareness and Personal Leadership. While directing people in the gym I had to make myself visible by using my voice and made sure each of them were going to go sit in their designated section. When the students were leaving the gym I stationed myself by the hill since I noticed many students trying to take a short-cut and cut through the garden instead of using the pavement and stairs. By doing this shows my decision-making skills. In summary, the Spirit Assembly was a total success and I can’t wait to be apart of more events this year!
