April Event – Grade 11 Day

April 16th, 2025

Event Participation: Was part of managing the twister station at the Grade 11 day event, which involved making sure everyone was playing the game right and making sure no complications were present.

Curricular Competency: Theme 1

Recognize why it is important to be a team player.

  • Being able to work towards proper communication within groups
  • Being able to rely on others within a group setting instead of dividing and conquering

Actions Taken:

Before:

  • Helped out with selling tickets for grade 11 day on the 7th, 8th, and 11th at lunch to grade 11’s offering tickets and handling cash for the days listed above.
  • Attended the Grade 11 day lunch meeting on April 15th to prepare myself for the big day the next day and to know what is expected of me during the event so that I could help out and wouldn’t be in the way of anyone, ensuring the fact that I can be someone the team can count on.

During:

  • I Couldn’t skip my entire block 5 class to help set up but came 25 minutes before the block ended to help out with decorations and helped out with the photobooth backdrop. By pinning the balloons and letters in the right spots to make the backdrop look more appealing.
  • Set up my own station (Twister) setting up the mat and having the spinning thing ready to go. Stayed at my station and managed twister games for the students to play at.

After:

  • Helped clean up scraps and garbage off the floor and taking down the tables and chairs at the cafeteria, as well as bringing back boxes (games, and supplies) back into the storage room upstairs.

Evidence: Provide strong, concrete examples of your efforts and achievements. Ensure your leadership teacher can understand this evidence.

Example 1:

Helped clean up afterwards, making sure the cafeteria looked just like it did before, asking people around if they needed help with folding the tables back up and folding and putting away all the chairs back to where they were supposed to be. I didn’t play a huge role in this event since the twister station didn’t need much help to set up and was only operating during certain hours (not during food serving hours) But despite all that I thought that I still did a pretty good job at trying to get myself involved in the event by asking others if they needed help cleaning up/setting up.

Example 2:

I was originally in charge of spinning the spinner for them (at the Twister station), but as the music was pretty loud it was hard to project our voice for the students to hear so a couple of them asked if they could take over and spin the spinner themselves among their friend group. I think being a team player is about being able to adapt to the current situations and circumstances that occur, and I knew it would make the activity smoother if I gave up my role.

Example 3:

While signing up for which days we were able to help sell tickets, I knew I wouldn’t be able to help out and sell tickets afterschool, so I signed up to help sell tickets the whole week during lunch. I think being a team player is about being able to step up where your able and even though I was only assigned the 3 days to sell tickets during lunch I was still willing to help out on more days.
