Communication

I can find information when I need or want it and present it clearly. In Business Ed I did research for a presentation on Budgeting. I found the information and organized it into a PowerPoint. After the assignment was complete, I presented it in class.

Collaborating

I can participate in group activities and do my share to achieve our goals. Early in semester 1, in my Humanities 9 Honours class, I participated in a group project. During this project, we had to exchange ideas in order to complete the assignment. Everyone in the group shared the work equally, and the final project was quite good.

Creative Thinking

Being honest, I don’t think I am very strong in this area, or perhaps haven’t yet had an opportunity to demonstrate my abilities. I thought very hard and could not come up with an example in semester one where I demonstrated this competency.

Critical and Reflective Thinking

I can establish goals and connect my learning to my goals, experiences, and efforts. This school year did not start off on a great note. My grades in French and Math were admittedly awful early on in the semester. I saw these and I knew I didn’t want to finish the year like this, so I set goals and put in the necessary work. After everything in the semester wrapped up, I ended up bringing my grades up by a couple of letter grades.

Positive Personal and Cultural Identity

I can describe what I believe is right and how they affect my choices. In Humanities we had a couple of different political discussions. During these conversations, I made sure to speak about my beliefs and opinions on multiple different issues.

Personal Awareness and Responsibility

I can set goals and work toward reaching them. As I said in the Critical and Reflective Thinking reflection, I set two major goals last semester. To reiterate what I said, my goals were to improve my Math and French grades and learning. I had to work quite a lot to get those grades up. I worked on extra math almost every night and practiced french a few times a week. In the end, it all paid off, and this experience taught me a lot about the benefits of hard work. Before this year I never really had to work very hard in school. I could put very little effort into my work and still get A’s and B’s.

Social Awareness and Responsibility

I am a positive member of the classroom, community, and/or the Environment.  This is another area I don’t think I do well in. Having said that, this doesn’t mean I am a negative member of any of those examples. I feel like I’m just there. I don’t really contribute much, negative or positive. I don’t really participate in many discussions, so that doesn’t provide me with opportunities to be a negative or positive member of the classroom.

Goal Setting

Do you have a goal for semester 2? My goal for this semester is to stay on top of my digital learning work. This is a real challenge for me. Because of the lack of a classroom, and a teacher reminding me to hand things in, I often find myself forgetting to hand in assignments. On a separate note, whenever I ask for help with a DL assignment, I am more often than not told to simply, look at teams. I understand that it is important for me to be able to help myself, in certain situations, however, I would be able to do a lot better if it was easier to get help.
