a. This is a self portrait I made in my visual arts 9 class in the beginning of the school year. It was one of the first self portraits I had ever made. My goal was to make it look as close to me as possible and to also make it look realistic.

b. I’m really proud on how the finished product turned out. It took a lot of planning and practicing. I’m really happy with the way that my shading turned out and how I was able to add a lot of contrast due to the charcoal on the background.

c. There were many challenges that I faced while creating this artwork, such as getting the proportions correct, making it look realistic, and also drawing the hair and facial features. I have curly hair so it was definitely a challenge to draw, and the nose was also very challenging. I faced a lot of challenges and frustrations during the process, however I am very happy with the end result.

d. Some things that I would want to improve on for next time would be to try to make the hair darker, make the eyes more like mine, and make the face shape a bit smaller. I would definitely want to make the whole portrait look more like me so that if someone saw it they could tell that it was a self portrait.
