December 16-20, 2024.
This years spirit week for winter was a whirlwind of fun, laughter, and school spirit! It was a fantastic opportunity to bring our community together, celebrate the holiday season and create lasting memories.
For this event, there were separate days for spirit week. I was assigned to jersey day on Wednesday that was hosted during lunch but I had a fieldtrip so I couldn’t fully participate but I did create a poster and an Instagram post and I asked for feedback from my members to make the poster and Instagram post better. for Jersey day but I saw pictures of my group and it seems the members of the group were hardworking and I asked the point person of the group, Dowar, about the event and he told me the event went smoothly and everyone had fun. I also stepped up to do the announcements for spirit week with another student, Ethan. We worked on the announcement script for a day to make it fun and engaging and then we recorded them on Thursday since the announcement was going to come out on Friday. There was also the talent show on Friday and since I couldn’t participate in jersey day as much, I decided to step up and control the talent show live at the library. There were some technical difficulties such as the live pausing or it would just show a pitch black screen but I fixed them and whenever there were any difficulties I checked in with the other students in charge of the talent show and I made sure nobody was messing with the livestream. There were some students who had questions about the talent show and I happily answered those questions. Another student and I exchanged shifts controlling the live and making sure it was streaming because we both wanted to support those who were performing in the talent show. Overall, the process and outcome for this event was straightforward and fun.
Curricular Competency: Theme 2: Self awareness and Personal leadership, understanding and using effective decision-making skills.
- It highlighted my self awareness in recognizing my strengths and how I could contribute to the success of Spirit Week.
- This experience demonstrated my ability to make effective decisions based on my circumstances and to step up and take on leadership roles when needed.
- Making informed decisions emphasized my ability to assess situations, consider my options, and choose the best course of action based on my strengths and resources.
- This competency encouraged me to recognize my unique skills and areas where I might need to develop.
Actions Taken:
- Before the event: I reflected on my strengths and weaknesses in planning and organization. I knew I had limited availability due to a field trip and of course I did let my group members know about the fieldtrip so I decided to focus my efforts on creating a poster and post and engaging with my group members.
- During the event: When I saw that the talent show needed someone to manage the live stream, I stepped up and offered to help. I knew I had some technical skills, and I was confident I could handle the challenges. Throughout the week, I showed school spirit and helped students who needed help during the rest of spirit week like answering questions or helping to set up stuff.
- After the event: I took time to reflect on my experiences during spirit week. I realized that I am more comfortable taking leadership roles when I can contribute in a way that aligns with my strengths but also I decided to take on complex and challenging leadership roles as well.
Evidence, Specific Examples:
- I decided to create a poster and a post for Jersey Day even though I couldn’t fully participate. I used my designs skills to create a visually appealing poster that captured the spirit of the event. This demonstrated my ability to make informed decisions based on my strengths and limitations and I promoted spirit week on different social media platforms and I talked about spirit week with my friends, specifically jersey day.
- During the talent show, I quickly identified and resolved technical difficulties with the live stream in minutes, using my knowledge of basic troubleshooting. This allowed the show to continue without interruption and people at the library enjoyed the livestream, This demonstrated my ability to think on my feet and take initiative in a challenging situation.
- After the event, I realized that my ability to effectively manage the live stream stemmed from my previous experiences working with technology in other contexts. I also recognized my willingness to step up and take responsibility for the technical aspects of the event was a direct result of my confidence in my skills. This self awareness will help me make better decisions in future events, allowing me to leverage my strengths and confidently contribute to the team.
