February Event- Valentines Day, Friday, February 14, 2025
Valentine’s Day is a time for love and appreciation, either romantically or platonically. It’s a sweet way to show appreciation towards someone. For Valentine’s Day, there were three groups split into different categories. The first group were in charge of decorations, the second group was in charge of setup, and the third group was in charge of marketing but everyone had to involve themselves and help each-other no matter what group you were and it was optional if you wanted to work on decorations or setup if you were in marketing. The point people for this event were Rachel and Elaine, I was placed into marketing by a form they created to decide what roles we wanted. We discussed our plans during the actual leadership meetings on Wednesday but the decorators had separate meetings to create the decorations. As marketing, I worked with two other people to create the poster and promoted this event on Instagram which informed a lot of people and I took pictures. The marketing team worked on an idea for a reel with Rachel although I didn’t take part of being in the reel. Besides that, I suggested some ideas and helped with the setup and decorations. I blew up the balloons and placed some of the decorations on the board, it turned out very nicely. We were ready for the event.
Curricular Competency: Theme 4, Public Relations and Forms of Communications, using effective communication skills in a group setting, which will be sensitive to everyone’s ideas while still being efficient but I was focusing on using different media to release information to the school.
How it aligns with my course goals:Â Â Â Â Â
- Effective communication: This event required clear and concise communication to ensure everyone understood their roles and responsibilities.
- Collaboration: Working as part of a team to achieve a common goal.
- Public Relations: Utilizing different media platforms to reach a wider audience and promote the event.
Before the event, we got dismissed five minutes earlier before lunch to set up the photo booth, props, create a line with tape so others can know where to line up for the booth. Everyone had their leadership tee shirts obviously and were prepared for the event. Rachel and Elaine discussed the plans one last time.
During the event, the marketing team were line mangers, just to keep things in control and move things smoothly. People were taking pictures with their friends and partners and were enjoying their time. I held peoples stuff as they took the picture and I explained what the event was, and of course answered questions when people asked. The team hyped up people as they took pictures. The atmosphere was joyful, everyone was having fun. I even took pictures with some of my friends.
After the event, Â we all took a group photo. I contributed into cleaning up by picking up trash, throwing away decorations, putting back the props and decorations in a box and placing things where they rightfully belonged. I made sure all of my tasks were complete and I asked if anyone else needed help.
Evidence:Â
- Creating and sharing a poster on Instagram: Releasing information to the school, the poster is evidence itself and informing people on social media.
- Managing the photo booth line: This demonstrates effective communication skills and the ability to work with others in a group setting.
- Explaining the event to attendees: This shows my ability to communicate clearly and concisely, answering questions and providing information in a helpful way.
- Taking pictures with friends and contributing to the positive environment, participating in the event.
- Cleaning up after the event which shows my responsibility and a commitment to team effort.
In conclusion, this event provided an opportunity to demonstrate my ability to effectively communicate within a group setting!
Photos! 🙂
