Using the Creative Fluency

For Socials Studies, my class had an Invention Pitch Assignment for our first unit about the Age of Inventions. There were around 30 inventions (and the inventors) to choose from and I choose to do Vaccines from Louis Pasteur.

Identify:

First, I took a look at my criteria and what to do. We had to research and take note on our invention and inventor. Then, we had to make the notes into a 90-100 second speech. Our next step was to make a one slide powerpoint slide then, we had to present it in front of the class. Researching information was fairly easy to do however, converting notes into a first-person speech form and putting the notes into the powerpoint was harder than I thought. Considering that I rarely write in first-person can be one of the reasons why it was a bit more challenging. Another thing I had some challenges with was actually putting the notes onto the powerpoint. I took lots of notes, way more than I expected, so I had some trouble trying fit it all onto one slide of a ppt. I wanted to put as much information I could onto the slide however, space was limited and I also wanted to add more visuals.

Inspire:

While researching, I found many infographics about Louis Pasteur and other inventions and contributions he made to other things. I took them into consideration and ways I can lay things out in my ppt slide. I also was able to earn and gain some information from reading and taking a look at them. They gave me a good idea of how I might like my ppt slide to be like. A friend of mine also showed me a blog of ppt templates I can use to help me find a layout I like most.

Interpolate:

After taking a good look at some examples online, I noticed that lots of the infographics tend to stick to having lots of pictures or lots of text. And so, I decided to add a lot of visuals as the one with more visuals would usually catch my eye. I also decided to split the ppt slide, one side mainly focusing on Louis Pasteur while the other focused on the main topic, vaccines after seeing lots of infographics split and separate the page.

Imagine:

After getting all my notes and pictures ready, I started working on the ppt.

Invention of Vaccination (S.S9)

I picked out a ppt theme that I thought would suit the theme of vaccines from the blog my friend showed me then got started to working on the slide. I split the slide into around a 2:5 ratio, the 2 being for Louis Pasteur while the 4 being for vaccines and more images. I’m pretty satisfied with how ppt came out. After, using the ppt as a guide, I finished writing my script to present.

Inspect:

Before presenting everything I took a look at the criteria. Almost everything fit into the criteria although I wasn’t sure about my script. It was supposed to be a 90-100sec. speech but when presenting I was unsure if I went over the time. Another thing is that I wish I had added more facts about the vaccine it self rather than Louis Pasteur. I also wish I had added more pictures or visuals to make sure that there weren’t any blank spaces because I feel like I could’ve fit more thing onto the ppt.
