Reflection 1 – My Goals for This Year

Reflection 1 – My Goals for This Year

Each class I enter this first week of school, classes become slowly louder as people warm up to each other. In most of my courses I have a peer that I had known from middle school. But in some, I wouldn’t have anybody to interact with. This is why I believe I need to have more interactions between classmates and myself, to hopefully make more friends. By the end of the month I have faith that this goal could be made.

Having just started the school year 2 days ago, I’m still getting a hang of the way high school works. To have already formed new friends would be tough. But, I could find myself able to make friends with my peers through those I knew from middle school. To accomplish my goal, I would be required to introduce myself to those that I have friends in common with. If, by the end of the first semester, I am able to speak to more of my peers, I will see that I have completed this goal.

In class, often we are expected to be able to find a partner or group for certain projects. In many of my classes, I wouldn’t be able to find myself a partner. For my third goal, I would like to be able to make at least one friend in each of my courses to be able to complete necessary work with them.

Education is the #1 priority of those teaching in a high school. That also reflects that student are in school to learn. Having education-based goals will improve the overall education levels for the student. Though, the beginning of the school year will seem overwhelming, especially with the extended amount of homework given to the students. This is why I created myself a goal and expectation to have gotten used to the work load by the end of September. I can track how this goal has progressed by paying attention to how I feel during homework.

This semester is the first one of many during my time in high school. Once the grade 9’s have settled in, teachers will understand the skill level of each of their students. At that point, I wish to have enough general knowledge regarding high school that my work becomes fast-paced, while keeping its detail. To put it in simple words, I hope I can pick up the pace when it comes to doing my school work.

From now until the end of grade 9, I will be expected to have put in my best of efforts into each class. If I persist in my work, I believe that I could earn high grades. In elementary and middle school I do believe I achieved this goal, having put full effort and time into everything I did. During high school, I need to pick up where I left off and continue doing good work.

Summertime for many is a time to relax, have fun in beaches, and hang out with friends. For me, I am given the opportunity to do the same things, but I can see my mental health worsening by the summer. Now that the school year has started again, I hope to have set enough daily habits for my mental health to come back to how it was last year. By the end of the month, I will give myself a check-in.

One of the greatest things when it comes to walking to school is the exercise. I get a mostly-uphill 30 minute walk to school each morning, giving me a solid hour of walk time by the end of the day. After having been at school for only 3 days, I feel that my body is already warming up again. By the end of this semester, I hope to see myself more physically active and energetic.

Speaking of physical improvement, in the second semester I have PHE. Gym in high school is much more advanced and fast-paced than middle school, meaning I need a lot of practice. Throughout the first semester, I will be working up my physical health to prepare for what is to come in semester 2.
