Cunieform and Hieroglypics

What form of writing (hieroglyphs or cuneiform) did you find more challenging to complete? Describe why it was harder?

After completing both the cuneiform and the hieroglyphics, the hieroglyphics were much easier than the cuneiform. Translating with cuneiform was both difficult and time consuming. The lines for the translated cuneiform are dependent on accuracy and precision. If a single line is out of place, it causes the translation to be wrong and incorrect as the cuneiforms all look a like.

If you could choose one form of writing (cuneiform or hieroglyphs), which would it be?  From your choice, what reasons can you give to help the reader understand why you made that choice.

Hieroglyphics appears to be the better choice for readers as hieroglyphics are more picture based, it enables the reader to easily translate the words into comprehensible sentences. Also, as the hieroglyphics have various unique shapes and sizes, it separates each letter into their own understandable context unlike cuneiforms where the words are comprised of lines and arrows. Another reason why hieroglyphics are easier to read is because for hieroglyphics you don’t need to sound them out to make a sentence but instead look at the pictures and infer through the images what the images mean. Overall, hieroglyphics are better for translating and reading as people understand images more than syllables.
