  1. Ask questions to your peer about what they’ve learned?  How is their learning reflected in their assignments.                               After speaking to Gavin about the language unit, I’ve learned that his biggest takeaway from this unit was the idea of how language effects the way we think. Both Gavin and I have similar ideas and takeaways from this Ted Talk in particular, and were heavily impacted by the fact that we both speak 2 languages. After discussing, we agreed that knowing 2 different languages affects your culture, ideas and how you think and focus on things. In the Oral traditions and smartphones assignment, Gavin demonstrated his learning by comparing and contrasting The language of tap dance and how it effects how people see rhythm and patterns; and the silent language that uses visual, physical and auditory senses to effect how someone thinks. In the text to speech assignment, both Gavin and I had a similar thought process when it came to the mistakes and what was right or wrong in the translation from text to speech. We both thought that the grammar and conventional sentence structure were the most common mistakes, yet because this tool is used for communication we think that the grammar is less important as long as the main idea gets passed along. For the Golden Record activity, Gavin demonstrated his learning and selected his songs based on humanities most unique feature, drama. He chose songs based on their dramatic effect to showcase the uniqueness of human personality and how we are bold and dramatic beings. In his Emoji Story assignment like me, he chose to write his story by going off singular words rather than big ideas in the plot. We both found this to be easier because we are familiar with the emoji keyboard, so translation from words would be more natural for us.
  2. How has your classmate’s experience been similar or different from yours? And how do you know?                                                One main way that Gavin and I’s learning experience has been different is from perspective. In certain assignments like the Golden Record, and Oral traditions and smartphones assignment we answered the questions differently because we were looking at the situation from different points of view. For example in the Golden Record activity, Gavin chose his songs based on their dramatic affect and meaning while I chose based on the significance and importance of these songs. Overall, Gavin and I have many similar ideas and thought processes.
