Summary:

I chose this person’s post because of the similarities between our assignments. After looking through my classmate’s websites and their assignments I found that my peer and I had some very similar opinions and views. We both think that cuneiform is much harder to write out and translate than hieroglyphics. We think this because cuneiform uses triangles and lines it is more complicated to write, especially in finite areas where the symbols must be small. On the other hand  we also agree that writing hieroglyphics proved to be much easier as the symbols like the bird or lion which would be easy to draw at any size. Another reason my peer and I agree on is the translation and how in cuneiform each symbol represents a sound rather than singular letters, which makes it harder and longer to write out.

Reflection:

My peer demonstrated his learning by posting both their cuneiform and hieroglyphic sentences followed by a brief but in depth explanation as to which form of writing he found more challenging and which one he liked more. My peer talked about how he viewed cuneiform, and how that affected his experience both reading and writing it. This aligns with how I demonstrated my own learning, and how I also found the cuneiform to be harder to read and understand because I am unfamiliar with the way it is written. Both my peer and I also had similar answers when it came to choosing one form of writing out of the 2 of them. We both selected hieroglyphics, and had similar answers. Some of the reasons we gave included the similarities in the structure of language between English and hieroglyphics, and how each hieroglyphic symbol represented a single letter. We both also talked about how we are more familiar with the symbols used, making translation between languages far easier. On the other hand, cuneiform is the opposite and made sentences be longer than their English counterparts, because the letters and words don’t entirely match up with the English language.
