Connection Concept Map and Circles of Influence

I wanted to really capture my ‘circles’ in a creative way that really connected with me personally. The point of this assignment intrigued me, because of the freedom of expression! I wanted to make an image of me physically painting my circles and those closest to me. I believe this fits perfectly, due to my artistic background. In addition to this, painting my circles shows that I can control how much space I can leave for certain groups on my canvas. I think controlling what you value is very important; so, with a painting I can add, take away, or even create whole new pieces for my life story. The purple at the very top is the smallest, but the closest to me. Since I am drawing my own ‘circle’ I made my shirt the same colour as the “significant other” category. This really emphasizes how close I am with this individual–one of my favourite colours is purple. My best friend is a similar colour, but just different enough to be a whole new category. My eldest brother is my closest family member, who I hold dear to me, they also get a lighter shade of purple. Purple is a very safe colour to me, because I have grown to really like it as a colour. I used to only like the colour red, but overtime I found myself taking a liking to purple. Speaking of red, the immediate family comes next, which adds more red into the picture. It is a shade of pink–pink meaning love–and I love my family, they are always there for me. Good friends have the most red to them. While you might think that I like this category the best, the red is not quite the shade of red I prefer. It is more of a orange-red. The orange is meant to show that this is not a priority category, because I do not like the colour orange. Mixing these two together, shows that there is more to love and value this group. Maybe overtime, I can add more red to this layer. Hobbies and entertainment is very important me, but it is one of the thinnest categories on the canvas. When I go out into the real world and away from highschool, I predict this layer will grow a lot more. Last, we have acquiantances. It is the biggest category, because this is kind of the “extras.” Those that made an impact on me, maybe once or twice, but do not have a lot of significance. If you notice, my paint brush on the bottom actually still has yellow on it. This shows that it was the category I have been adding to most recently. I meet new acquiantances almost everyday. My last detail I wanted to include is the potential growth here. On the bottom of the easel, there is two extra colours that are not present on the canvas. This is for the future. I am saving these colours for new groups that could be added long term, or short term. I imagine these will be saved for my own family or new friends I make later in life.
