Mid-term Reflection

Throughout my first semester, I have learned a lot from Leadership 12. Although the course is about leadership, I have also honed my skills on becoming a good listener and follower. I have shown growth that I believe is unique amoungst my peers, because I have learned to take a step back

and let others lead; while I support them and provide aid to the best of my ability. My first event was Meet the Teacher night; I was actually a point person! I believe I was the perfect canidate to lead this event. I had a projecting voice, heard my peer’s suggestions, problem solved and

deligated tasks efficiently. In addition, I came up with an innovation that was untilized during the event; having everyone write down their languages on their name tags! The event went very smoothly with very few discrepencies; overall, an amazing event. I was so excited to become a

point person again, I considered signing up right away for the next batch of events. I had a conversation with Ms. Macpherson and she suggested to let other students have a turn. While I first took offense to this, I consoled a peer of mine in leadership. They reassured me that I am a good

leader and have strong characteristics, not just a loud personality. They mentioned that there are people who need to push themselves in leadership, by taking risks and being the point person. This made me realize that some people do not take risks as leaders, because they do not recieve

enough support or affirmation they deserve. It is hard to take risks while someone takes all the risks for you. I wanted to be a good follower and bring good energy to a team, while still maintaining my flare. This is demonstrated in the more recent event I participated in, the Talent Show. I

was able to offer good communication with the three point people by responding to emails, meeting deadlines, giving my opinion and ideas and connecting any problems we may come across.
