Leadership had provided so many amazing opportunities that have taught me so many things about myself. I remember going to the first leadership meeting and believing that I was in the wrong place because I did not radiate leader energy like the grade 12’s that I saw there. However, being in leadership this year proved to me that I am capable of being that person who encourages others to step out of their comfort zones, run big school events, and where others can rely on me. I did not even fathom the possibility of being a point person at the beginning of the year, but then I saw how being a point person would allow me to explore new skills of mine, and being an actual point person definitely tested my abilities as a true leader. My communication has become clearer and more effective, making it easier for everyone to reach our goals and expectations. Through seeking out opportunities, I have learned that stepping outside of my comfort zone always makes me feel better. Leadership also helped me become more connected to the school than I was in my last two years. I got to meet over 60 new students and work with them to provide the school with exciting events. I have accomplished my personal goal of being comfortable with my voice to express myself with classmates in my other classes because of leadership. Furthermore, I have learned how to receive feedback from my peers and work on them so that I can perform even better at a future event. I remember when I was in middle school and I looked up to the leadership students who cheered me and my friends during spirit assemblies. I would always wonder if I would ever be brave enough to be one of those students running these fun events for the school. I had this doubt until grade 11 where I decided to try my goal of being a leadership student. I saw what I skills and experience I could gain. Now, if I could, I would tell my younger self that I am braver than I thought; and to take chances like signing up for leadership because it will teach me so many valuable skills that I can use moving on. Watching students enjoy each event that leadership planned revealed just how amazing Pinetree staff and students are with their school spirit. I am extremely grateful to be a part of leadership 2023 and I cannot wait to see what remarkable plans leadership will unravel next year.
