Based on my improved performance since the midterm, I think my grade should be a 95%. I volunteered in more events and participated more in each one, took more initiative when I was not a point person to help make events run smoother and become more successful, and achieved my goal of actually becoming a point person which allowed me to demonstrate my growth since the midterm.

Being a point person for the Love of Books event, I was able to demonstrate a lot more of my communication capabilities and my responsibility as a leader compared to my midterm. For instance, leading up to the event I constantly messaged or had meetings with people to ensure that everyone knew what their responsibilities were since this was a new event that the school had never ran before. I also talked with Polina, who made the event idea who collect all the information that the other leadership students would need so that advertisers could give out important information, and security would know to only allow students who signed up for the event to enter the library, and more. I stayed in communication with the other point person and Ms. Turpin to make sure that we had the library booked books, and pizza ready for the students. It was vital that we could provide pizza for the students as we anticipated that the event would take the entire lunch, so we needed to provide lunch for the students. On the day of the event, I helped create a welcoming environment to help students get out of their comfort zones and talk to new people about their favourite books. This led to everyone having fun and laughing by the end of lunch. Because this was a new event, we noticed not many people knew about it until the last few days. Moving forwards, I made sure to focus on this issue for other smaller and new events like Easter Fluffle.

The second half of the year, I have significantly improved at identifying problems and working to find solutions to those problems. For example, when I was designing the easter eggs to hide around the school, I thought ‘what if the students are not aware of what to do once they find an egg and where to bring it’. So, I put the instructions that I believed the point person for the event would have wanted students to follow on the egg. As I was hiding the eggs the next day, it occurred to me that students might not be aware of us running this event because my friends did not know about it until I told them a few days ahead. Therefore, I brought this issue with Jenna, the person who I was partnered to hide eggs with and came up with the idea to make a script on the spot, get Ms. Turpin to approve of it and send it to the office, and to make the announcement the day of the event. As a result, our event was a huge success as almost all the students were looking for the eggs when lunch began and the anticipation of who would find the eggs first was intense the entire lunch.

I was also more involved compared to the midterm, by participating in more event when I could. To elaborate, I have been able to touch a bit in almost every possible job that leadership provided. This includes being a point person and being a leader for other leadership students, being an advertiser for a fundraiser, being security to make sure people were behaving on rides, being a person responsible for handling food, and trying a bit harder during spirit week to have cuter outfits for each theme.

Overall, I think I have showed my growth significantly in the past few months. I put all my effort for each event to ensure each event is exciting for students, I collaborate with my peers by providing and receiving their feedback to work on in the future. I have demonstrated an understanding of what leadership values and the expectations of being a leader.
