Comparison

At the beginning of Leadership, I was very nervous to interact with other members because it was such a large group, and I didn’t know most of the people. From this, I was often hesitant to participate in the reflections we had to do after events even though I would have something to share. After the first two meetings, my goal was to speak up more. This goal was successful because I would share my ideas, but it would take me a while to have the courage to speak. From this, after the first month of school, I began to open up and I feel that I made great improvement in terms of my ability to collaborate with other leadership members. Now, I can happily interact with most people in leadership without having that stressful impact. Another one of my goals that were successful was volunteering for more events which gradually increased as I learned how to better manage time. One thing that stayed the same since the beginning of the year is my participation in teams, and even attending the meetings. I always made sure to dedicate time to read the Teams messages so I knew what was going on and when certain things were due.

The goal that I was working on throughout the semester was being a point leader for 1 event. I wasn’t successful with this goal as I never had the confidence to become one.  I would like to have the courage to become a point leader for one event. I was a bit too nervous to volunteer to become the point person all semester, and I feel that by the end of semester 1, I have a clearer idea of effective strategies when being a point person. I think I wasn’t a point leader for previous events because I didn’t quite fully understand the expectations of being one. In addition, there were times when point leaders would have one way of doing something, but I felt that it could have been better done. I understand that being one will give me the opportunity to install methods that I think are effective rather than following someone else’s way of doing something. In order to achieve this goal, I am going to take the initiative to fully convince myself that I should be a point leader. Then I would write my reasoning when submitting my application to the leadership teachers. Overall, I know that this is a short-term goal because it is going to be achieved by the middle of semester 2.
