Why I chose a Rubik’s Cube

I chose to do my circle of connections on a Rubik’s cube, because I find that relationships and connections with people tend to be more complicated than a series of boxes and arrows connecting to each other. As time passes, people come and go, and I wanted to symbolize that with the turning layers of the puzzle, because as you turn and shuffle the puzzle, the edge and corner pieces move apart or get closer. The corner piece in the center represents me. A corner piece has three sides, meaning the stickers of the cube all must align with its orientation. This shows how I connect with the three sides of the cube. The 3 center pieces represent family, community, and relationships. The reason I chose these three for my center pieces is because in a Rubik’s cube, the center pieces never move away from their position. They rotate, but they are always at the center. The edge pieces connect the three key concepts together, by blending in ideas that relate to each other.

My explanation of my map

For Relationships, I have my two key points as best friends and significant other. My best friends have had a massive positive impact on who I am today. They made me more outgoing, and I have only good memories with them. Stemming off from my best friends are just friends, mutual friends, and acquaintances which have not impacted me as much as I prefer to keep my circle of friends tight. Significant others overall had a negative impact on me as my past relationships have not ended very well, which also connects with my avoid list. For Family, I have my parents connecting to the relationships side, and culture, connecting to my community side, as my edge pieces. My parents have obviously been a huge influence in my life since they raised me from when I was born. They have been great parents, but sometimes they do stress me out. Connecting to my parents are my two older sisters, the oldest which has had a negative impact on me growing up, and the second sister, who has been like a friend to me. My culture has also impacted my life in a positive way. I love where I come from and having made friends who also come from the same background has made me appreciate it even more. My last two key points for Community are School, which connects to best friends, and my Environment, which connects to culture. School has had a positive impact on me and my relationships because I would never have had the chance to meet all these people if it were not for school. It also connects with my classmates and teachers, both of which have motivated me to try harder in my academics. The environment had a huge influence on who I am today because the people in my surroundings changed how I present myself. It has influenced my personality in an overall positive way.
