Reflecting on this semester, I can confidently say that I am very satisfied with my performance so far. Looking back, I was surprised when I realized how much my leadership skills have developed compared to the start of the year. In the beginning, I used to hesitate to volunteer when opportunities came up, stayed silent in group discussions and was not able to contribute much to events. However, I was determined to push myself, and because of that, I was able to grow as a leader. For example, when the first three events were announced, I forced myself to volunteer for both the Terry Fox Run and Parent Teacher Night in addition to the event I was assigned to, which was Orange Shirt Day. Although I was not a point person in any of these events, I produced suggestions for the event and worked hard to ensure everything ran smoothly. Participating as much as I could helped me become more comfortable in the leadership role and forced me to become more outgoing. Eventually I began to try to do more in events, and volunteered for roles which were not just cleaning and helping in general, such as filming as a camera man for Pinetree’s Talent Show. Leadership has forced me to break out of my reserved personality and has taught me how to take the initiative, which are crucial skills that will certainly benefit me in the future. I am grateful for what I was able to learn in the first semester of Leadership and look forward to the fun and challenging experiences I will face in the second semester.
